Tough Day For Carolyn

Glen Rose, Texas

Weather: low 35 degrees, high 58 degrees, clear skies

We got an early start this morning and were at the hospital in Glen Rose by 0730 hours for Carolyn's medical procedure. Remember the old saying " Hurry up and wait"? That's what happened today. Carolyn was taken in to be prepped for the procedure almost immediately, then waited for the doctor almost two hours. The procedure was fairly straight forward, and only took about 30 minutes from the time she was taken from her room until she was back. That's when the bad part started.

In the past, Carolyn has had problems with nausea caused by the anesthesia. She told the hospital personnel about that, and they said they would take care of it. Not!! She had a hard time waking up, and when she was conscious. she was so nauseated she couldn't move. Eventually, they gave her two shots for the nausea, but nothing really helped until we got her home and she was able to sleep the drugs off.

Now, the good news. The doctor did not find any problems while performing the procedure. It's just too bad that the drugs make Carolyn so sick. Since she knows what normally happens to her when she has to be administered anesthesia, she is hesitant to have anything done that requires it. I can understand because I have seen how her body responds.

As a result of Carolyn's adventure (or is that misadventure), we stayed at home the rest of the day. She started feeling better after 1800 hours, and I think she'll be back to her old self tomorrow. She said to tell everybody that the worst part of this whole episode did not happen on Sunday. It happened today. I'm not going to say what she had done out of respect for her dignity, but anyone who has been through it before may be able to figure it out. Suffice it to say that it was a medical examination that everyone should have performed once they reach a certain age. I had it done in December of 2007, and did not have any problems at all.

It was some day. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

More later, be safe.
