Short Ride

Rockport, Texas

Weather: low 68 degrees, high 84 degrees, partly cloudy skies, windy

We've noticed that Carolyn's vertigo acts up when the weather is going through a change. Today, she felt just a little off center, and the weather is different from the last three days, when it was clear. It's been partly to mostly cloudy today, but the weather forecast doesn't show any major changes for the next five days. Hopefully, she will feel better tomorrow.

Rockport has an aquarium that we plan to visit while we're here. We didn't go today, but instead took a ride down to Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, and Ingleside. There have been so many changes since we were last here that we didn't recognize much. This area has become a haven for Winter Texans with good reasons. There are a large number of RV parks, as well as restaurants and all the other things that spring up to support a large population such as them. That doesn't mean it's crowded here, because it's not. At least at this time. It appears we have come to the area in the time between most of the winter folks leaving and the summer folks arriving after school lets out.

We were commenting that the area reminds us of what the coast of Florida was like 30 years ago, just as the population exploded and development took off. I would not like to see this area get so commercialized as much of the Florida coast is. That doesn't mean we expect the area to stay like it is. We know that's not going to happen. What I wouldn't like to see is so much development that people can't get to the beach or get their boats in the water because access has been cut off.

I saw this Mexican eagle during my walk. In the pose, it looks a little like a sea gull, but note the black patch on top of the head.

Originally, we were planning to leave here today, but decided to stay until at least next Monday. We like the area enough that we might make this a regular stop, especially if we can time it between seasons like we did this time.

More later, be safe.
