Back In Coker, Alabama

Coker, Alabama

Weather: low 29 degrees in Duson, Louisiana, high 49 degrees somewhere in southern Mississippi, clear skies, light breezes, heavy frost in Duson

It was coldddddd in Duson, Louisiana when we got up this morning. Everything outside was covered with heavy frost, including the water hose which did not freeze for some unknown reason. By the time I had everything outside ready to travel, I thought my hands would break off, they were so cold. We left Duson at 0800 hours, and as I mentioned in the weather section, it was a great day for traveling.

We had heard on the radio yesterday that the bad weather was causing a lot of problems along I-10 in southern Louisiana and Mississippi. Our opinion was that Louisiana was hit hard, with some places still having up to 6 inches of snow still on the ground. It was apparent that there were a lot of accidents caused by careless drivers in conditions that they very seldom encounter. On I-12, we saw where the traffic had been stopped for hours due to road closures, and several snowmen were still standing that had been built by bored drivers. We were not held up by the weather today, but we saw several accidents caused by people being careless, including running on the edge of the road and losing control of their vehicles.

Once we got into Mississippi, we did not see any sign of snow. It may have been that it was already melted. As we got into Alabama, there was plenty of evidence that the rainfall totals were high. When we got to Coker and parked in our space, our landlord told us that the area had received at least 5 inches of rain over the last two days. She also said that the temperatures had been below freezing almost every night. Brrrrr!

We got into Coker about 1600 hours, so the priority was to park and get the RV set up before dark. We managed to do that, but didn't get the satellite dish set up. I know what I will be doing in the morning. Carolyn says she can't see her TV shows with the RV antenna.

The truck and RV are both filthy on the outside from traveling through rain, sleet, snow, slush, and mud the last few days. If possible, I'll start trying to get some cleaning done over the next few days. In the meantime, I'm wore out, so I think I'll close for now.

More later, be safe.
